John Barger

John Barger blends a style of impressionism and naturalism to create landscapes intended to bring out the majesty of his subjects and to invite the viewer to experience the play between color and light of what the artist regards as an exquisite moment in time. John Barger credits his evolution as an artist to the French impressionist Claude Monet, American master George Inness, and Texas artist Porfirio Salinas.

The late A.C. Cook, renowed historian of early Texas art and owner of “The Hock Shop Collection” says of John Barger, “I have known John Barger for many years; I consider him to be without a doubt the finest contemporary Texas landscape artist.” Mr. Cook goes on to say, “John Barger compares favorably to the great masters from the 1920’s and the 1930’s, which was a gold era in Texas art.”

Mr. Cook went on to say, "If John had painted these during that time, they would be worth tens of thousands of dollars now. He is part of the next generation of artists that will be called Masters tomorrow. People like Salinas, Onderdonk and Reaugh were the Masters of Texas art, and John is their caliber. Every serious collector should have a Barger in their collection."

John Barger received his art degree from the University of Texas. He has traveled and studied extensively in Mexico and Europe. His paintings can be found in numerous corporate collections, prestigious private collections, as well as fine art galleries. John’s painting, Spirit of Texas, is included in the permanent art collection housed in the state capital in Austin. He has been featured in Southwest Art magazine; he is listed in Davenport’s Art Reference, The Official Price Guide to Fine Arts, and in the Red Book-American Western Art Price Index.

Adobe Western Art Gallery has been representing Mr. Barger for ten years. He is, without a doubt, one of the premire artists we carry and are proud to have him in our family of artistsans.
